What is it?
The Bear Race is a 5-mile challenging run to the TOP of Grandfather Mountain. This is a running race and is NOT designed to be walked the entire race. We have to hold everyone at the top until the last runner is in. We will have a sag van picking up anyone who does not make it to the 3-mile aid station within 50 minutes.
There will be no race day registration. Only pre-registered online credit card entries will be accepted.
We will give entrants two chances to pick up their packets:
- Wednesday, July 10, 2019 5-7 pm at Kidd Brewer Football Stadium on the campus of Appalachian State University (West side).
- Thursday, July 11, 2019 5-6:30 pm race day at the tent on the side of the road at the intersection of Hwy 221/105 in Linville, NC (or the Highland Games parking area before the intersection).
Timing chips will be in the race packets. Do not send them to the top of the mountain, they MUST BE tied to your shoe, anywhere else will NOT work!
Race bibs must be worn on the front, not the back or side! Failure to place your bib on the front of your body and running with a timing chip placed somewhere other than your foot may result in missing your finish and leaving you off the results.
Every year people claim their chip is not in their packet and then 10 minutes later someone turns in a chip found on the ground. We have a dedicated team ensuring packets are accurate. Please check your packets as they are handed to you and do not forget your chip for race day. Thank you for doing this properly.
The race starts at the intersection of Hwy 105 and Hwy 221 in Linville, NC at 7 pm THURSDAY, July 11, 2019.
